I saw a post on LinkedIn about abandoning your work friends when they lose employment.
And man… I felt that.
Years ago, when my ex committed that horrendous crime and got arrested, most of my “close” friends, some I even considered my best friends, dropped me immediately when news of his arrest spread throughout the organization.
They treated me like I had committed the crime. They shunned me, betrayed me, and never cared to find out the truth.
Some of them only reached out when I made a public post about it years later. Too late… their colors showed through their actions.
And sure, this isn’t about getting laid off or let go. But it sure is about character.
Abandoning people when they need you most is downright horrible.
Don’t shun your former coworkers just because their IM status no longer turns green and their emails have permanent auto-replies.
Be a decent human, if not a decent friend.
