It's Not About the Size of Your Boat: Finding Your Own Buoyancy in Life's Rough Waters
Motivation for When the Waters of Life Get Rough
Someone recently said to me, “I wish my boat were as resilient as I perceive other people in their little wooden boats, navigating the seas of life, are.”
And man, I felt that. I bet you did, too.
Whenever life gets hard, and the waves get rough, we have a tendency to compare ourselves to someone else, their boat.
It’s either, “my situation sucks, but they had it worse, so really I should feel the way I do about mine”, or “my situation sucks, but they had a stronger body, more money, a better job than me, so they could handle it better.”
But consider this.
A tugboat can pull a barge.
And a 2-person fishing boat can make turns easier than a cruise liner.
Simply put:
“It doesn’t matter what your boat is made out of or how big it is. What matters is how buoyant it is." - Selena Brown
You may not have everything that the guy next door has. And you may not have it as bad as the lady across the street. But your situation is valid, and you have skills and abilities that others don’t.
So next time you feel like you simply aren’t enough to get through whatever situation you’re facing, write down all the great things you do have. All your skills. Your positive characteristics. Your qualities.
Then turn your boat, and start moving. You’ll be out of the troubled waters before you know it, one row at a time.
Shattered became my superpower. The day my world exploded, I discovered that broken things aren't worthless—they're raw materials for something stronger. Two little ones needed me to figure this out fast.
